A new climate change action plan was unanimously approved by Toronto City councillors last night.

The TransformTO Pathway to a Low Carbon Future report aims to reduce city wide greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.

Councillor Mary Margaret McMahon outlined that this will be possible with current technologies but it will require bold action from the city, the community and stakeholders across all sectors.

On another issue, councillors also voted unanimously to improve social housing in Toronto. The Tenant First – Phase One Implementation Plan contains a total of 11 recommendations, including the creation of a new Seniors Housing and Services entity that is more directly accountable to City Council and is responsible for managing 83 seniors-designated buildings currently within the TCHC portfolio.

Wednesday is day 2 of Council’s 3 day meeting.
