ONTARIO MAKES ANOTHER GENEROUS OFFER

The Ontario government is offering a second group of civil servants a deal that would extend their contracts past the next election – with no concessions attached.

The offer to the union representing many professionals in the public service – comes shortly after a similar one to OP-SEU, which represents more than 35-thousand public servants and correctional staff.

Both tentative deals feature 7.5 per cent raises – and would extend the contracts for four years – a timeline which could avoid any contentious bargaining – before next year’s election.

The presidents of both unions involved say they suspect the offers are meant to keep labour groups content – ahead of the upcoming vote.
