Three albums focused on the mistreatment of Canada’s indigenous people and a final nod to music legend Leonard Cohen are on this year’s Polaris Music Prize long list.
Cohen is being recognized for his sombre final project, “You Want It Darker.”

Also on the list: 2014 Polaris winner Tanya Tagaq’s “Retribution,” A Tribe Called Red’s “We Are The Halluci-Nation” and Gord Downie’s “Secret Path”

The long list was selected from 188 albums that made the first ballots.  The short list of contenders will be revealed July 13.  The winner will be awarded $50,000 at a gala in Toronto September 18th.
