Physicians, who provide assisted dying across Canada, are meeting as a group for the first time in Victoria, to discuss how they can help all eligible patients end their lives by clarifying a confusing part of the right-to-die law.

It’s the part that allows physicians to end the lives of those whose natural death is ”reasonably foreseeable”.

Members of the Canadian Association of Medical Assistance in Dying Assessors and Providers, have agreed to replace that term with ”reasonably predictable” to avoid the current misinterpretation that’s led to some terminally ill patients being denied a medically-assisted death.

The doctors say by using ”reasonably predictable,” they’ll no longer have to turn to lawyers for clarification of the one-year-old law, that’s already being legally challenged over the issue by two patients.
