This fall, for the cost of $56.50, residents of Toronto’s west end can subscribe to the “West End Phoenix”, a monthly broadsheet community newspaper being published by writer and musician Dave Bidini.

Bidini is a founding member of the band Rheostatics.

The home-delivered paper will be non-profit, ad-free and patron-supported and CanLit legend Margaret Atwood is among the board and advisory council members.

The first issue is slated to be published in October.

Bidini says he hopes the “West End Phoenix” becomes a living document of a time and place, and the voices of that place.

The 53-year old Bidini will join Classical FM’s Mike Duncan at 9:30 Monday morning.
