It turns out cutting out the amount of salt you add to your food at the dinner table isn’t enough to really reduce your sodium intake.
Researchers found that more than two-thirds of the amount of salt the average person ingests comes from restaurants, followed by food that is naturally salty.
Salt added to food during the home-cooking process was the third biggest contributor to a person’s sodium intake, with salt added to food at the table coming in last.
The study published in the journal Circulation suggests the findings provide a reminder about how much salt is used in restaurant food preparation.
