Jerry Garcia’s custom-made guitar, called ‘Wolf,’ is going up for auction in New York City at the end of the month.
It’s being sold by devoted Deadhead Daniel Pritzker, a philanthropist, musician and film director, who bought it in 2002 for $790,000.
The instrument might go for more than $1,000,000 this time.
Guernsey’s auction house says ‘Wolf’ first appeared in a 1973 New York performance the Grateful Dead gave for the Hells Angels.
‘Wolf’ has been everywhere from San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom to the Palladium in New York and Egypt’s Great Pyramids.
There’s extensive footage of ‘Wolf’ in the 1977 ”Grateful Dead Movie”, directed by Garcia.
He died in 1995 at the age of 53.
