A just released report by the Ontario Human Rights Commission, that suggests racial profiling is something many racialized and indigenous people in this province experience daily, argues the province is at a ”critical juncture” when it comes to addressing the issue.
The report, ‘Under Suspicion:  Research and consultation report on racial profiling in Ontario,’ is based on research and consultations with over 1,600 individuals and groups across the province.
(CBC News)
”This report confirms what racialized communities have known for generations:  racial profiling is real,” says Chief Commissioner Renu Mandhane.
”Rebuilding trust requires concrete action to address racial profiling in all its forms.”
Despite evidence from courts and human rights tribunals of it occurring daily, the report says many people and institutions still deny its reality.
It also found it’s not limited to policing, with many reporting they experience racial profiling in education, retail, and child welfare.
