As expected, the federal Liberals have fulfilled a major election promise, tabling legislation to legalize recreational pot.

The plan contains bills to regulate recreational use, sale and cultivation as well as to strengthen measures to stop impaired driving.
Some of the highlights include allowing Canadians to possess up to 30 grams of dried or fresh cannabis and 18 would be the minimum age to buy it, though provinces and territories can set a higher legal age.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s repeatedly said the goal is to restrict access of marijuana to minors and choke off profits from sales by organized crime.
The plan is expected to face tough scrutiny in the House of Commons and at committee before moving on to the Senate.
The government’s hoping to make pot legal by July 1, 2018.
