No relief from sky high rent increases in the province just yet after the Wynne Liberals shot down an N.D.P. bill that would have expanded rent controls to housing units built after 1991.
Ontario Housing Minister Chris Ballard says the Wynne Government is drafting its own legislation that will deal with more than just rent controls and will impact a lot of people.
But Ontario N.D.P. Leader Andrea Horvath says her party’s bill would have extended rent controls right across the province and its rejection leaves renters in jeopardy of 100% rent increases like the ones being faced by some condo renters in Toronto’s Liberty Villiage.
There is still no world on when the Wynne Liberals will introduce their bill, but Ballard says it’s coming in the next few weeks.
