Prime Minister Trudeau has a warning for Donald Trump; Trump’s plan to tear up the North American Free Trade Agreement could cost the United Sates a lot of good, middle class jobs.
Trudeau told NBC News in New York last night, while attending a performance of the Canadian musical “Come From Away”, that good middle class jobs, happen on both sides of the border because of the close relationship between our two countries. And while, NAFTA has been improved a dozen times over the past 20-years, Trudeau says there are always opportunities to talk about how to make it better. He says since NAFTA has led to a lot of great jobs on both sides of the border, Canada is happy to entertain a few tweaks.
Trudeau says NAFTA has resulted in $2 billion worth of goods crossing the Canada – U.S. border daily. A study published in January by the Centre for Automotive Research suggested the American withdrawal from NAFTA could result in the loss of 31,000 U.S. jobs.
