Police, who described the highway as ”near whiteout,” say three officers, five firefighters and 17 civilians were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for exposure to the chemical, which has not been identified.
The township of Leeds and The Thousand Islands has released a statement saying all the vehicles have been re-routed.
No residential properties were affected and there’s no risk to the public.
