All four of Toronto’s Mirvish Theatres will dim their marquee lights tonight to mark the passing of two of this country’s brightest lights.
Stuart McLean, beloved writer, broadcaster, teacher and performer passed away on February 15 at the age of 68. He had performed 10 sold-out “Vinyl Cafe Christmas” shows at the Royal Alex in December 1998.
Four days later the theatre community lost actor Richard McMillan at the age of 65. He was the first actor to portray the villainous Scar in the Canadian production of The Lion King at the Princess of Wales and appeared as Father O Donnell in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Boys in the Photograph” at the Royal Alex.
McMillan received four Dora Mavor Moore Awards, a Gemini, and a Toronto Theatre Critics Award over the course of his illustrious career.
In the time honoured tradition, the marquee lights will be dimmed at curtain time of 8 PM.
