It didn’t take long for debate to heat up in the Ontario legislature Tuesday.
Shortly after MPPs resumed sitting following winter break, the opposition parties called for the government to introduce legislation to ban disconnecting hydro of customers who haven’t paid their bills.
In addition, groups such as the Zoomers advocacy group CARP have been pressuring the Wynne Liberals to ban the practice.
It will all depend on what distribution companies do by midnight.
Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault requested last week that companies voluntarily stop pulling the plug.
A spokesperson says ”many” have said they’re no longer doing this to customers during the winter, but, the premier says the government will introduce the legislation Wednesday if all companies have not complied by the end of business Tuesday.
