German prosecutors say there’s insufficient evidence to held him.
The man, identified as Naved B, a 23-year-old asylum seeker from Pakistan, was arrested after he was spotted leaving the scene.
But police expressed doubts about whether he was responsible for the crash that left a dozen dead and nearly 50 injured.
The release of the man might mean the driver of the truck’s still at large.
Chancellor Angela Merkel and other senior German officials have laid white roses at the scene.
