A former University of British Columbia student who accused author Steven Galloway of sexual assault – has broken her silence.

Galloway was fired as chairman of the creative writing program in June – after the university said an investigation found a record of misconduct.

The author issued a statement this week that confirmed he was accused of sexual assault – but that the only allegation substantiated by an investigator’s report – was that he had an affair with a student.

But the woman, identified only as M-C, says her complaint to U-B-C was not about a consensual affair – but about allegations that Galloway sexually assaulted and harassed her.

M-C says in a statement released by her lawyer that she has not seen the investigator’s report – because Galloway has appealed the university’s decision to release a redacted version to her.

She also says Galloway has admitted the investigator found he had engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour with a student – conduct that she says is an abuse of trust and his position of power.

Through his lawyer, Galloway declined comment about the woman’s  statement.
