A garbage strike is affecting parts of Peel Region as of this morning.

If you live in the areas west of the Credit River and Fletcher’s Creek in Mississauga, areas west of Highway 410 and north of Bovaird Drive in Brampton and all of Caledon, your garbage collectors went on strike at 12:01am to back contract demands.

Workers with Emterra Environmental rejected the company’s latest offer on Tuesday night.

Affected residents are being advised to still put out their garbage and if it’s not collected, to leave it on the curb until crews do come by. Alternatively, you can also drop off waste at one of Peel’s recycling centres where are hours are being extended during the strike.

The other forty percent of waste collection in Peel is handled by another company, Progressive Waste Solutions, and is not affected by the strike.
