It looks as though Canadian kids are among the least active in the world.
Researchers behind the annual ParticipAction report card compared Canada’s poor youth physical activity record to data from 37 other countries.
Canada was placed towards the bottom of the pack, alongside other developed countries including Australia, England, Spain and the United States who all earned a grade of D-minus.
ParticipAction researchers estimate only nine per cent of Canadian kids aged five to 17 get the recommended minimum of 60 minutes of “heart-pumping activity” a day.
That’s in contrast to the 86 per cent of boys and 76 per cent of girls in Slovenia who get plenty of exercise.
Lead researcher Dr. Mark Tremblay says Canadian kids are too sedentary and need to make unstructured play a regular part of their life.
