Actor Robert Vaughn, best known as secret agent Napoleon Solo in the 1960s TV-series ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’, has died of leukemia at 83.
David McCallum, who played Illya Kuryakin alongside Vaughn in the show, says he was ”utterly devastated” by the news.
McCallum adds ”losing him is like losing a part of me. He was a great human being. I enjoyed every day of working with him.”
Sir Roger Moore, who played secret agent James Bond in several films between 1973 and 1985, said he too was sorry to hear the news.
Vaughn also appeared in films such as ‘The Young Philadelphians,’ which earned him the 1960 Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, ‘Bullitt,’ and ‘Superman III’.
