It could be a major challenge for parents of 8500 Toronto public and Catholic students if bus drivers go on strike Thursday.

The strike deadline is Thursday at 12:01 a.m. as negotiators for the drivers and bus operator First Student Markham continue talks.

Local union president Deb Montgomery says “drivers cannot continue to have hours a week go unpaid and unrecognized”, but she says she is still optimistic a deal can be reached.

Both the TDSB and the TCDSB have posted lists of schools that would be affected on their websites and are urging parents to start planning alternative arrangements as no replacement bus service will be provided.
