One of Andy Warhol’s 1964 paintings of Jackie Kennedy is the lead item of Bonham’s Post-War and Contemporary Art auction on November 15th in New York.
The painting was one of many completed the year after U-S President John Kennedy was assassinated and could fetch in the million dollar range.
Warhol collated images of the former First Lady which were taken by the news media following her husband’s death. He selected photographs to use with his signature silkscreen technique and created more than 300 portraits in different formats; iterations of which are part of the permanent collections of institutions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
