Several American central bank policymakers believe it would be ”appropriate” to increase interest rates soon if economic development unfold about as expected.
That comes from the minutes of the September 20-21 meeting, at which the U.S. Federal Reserve Board held rates steady.
Since then, Chair Janet Yellen and several other Fed policymakers have said they expect a rate hike by the end of the year should the labour market and inflation continue to strengthen.
There are two more meetings this year, November 1-2 and December 13-14.
Investors have all but ruled out a move in rates at the meeting next month that takes place just days before the U.S. presidential election.
Currently, they see about a 66% probability the Fed will raise rates in December.
Yellen’s scheduled to speak in Boston Friday, which may give an indication into the central bank’s latest thinking.
