The Tragically Hip’s recent tour has helped raise over $1-million for brain cancer research in Canada.
Nearly $800,000 is going to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
It’s named for the Kingston band’s lead singer who revealed earlier in the year he’s battling terminal brain cancer.
Fans flocked to the group’s 15-show tour that ended in their hometown last month.

The money is designed to give researchers the tools to help beat brain cancers that are currently unbeatable.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Cancer Society says nearly $400,000 will support Canadian Cancer Trials Group, based at Queen’s University, as it tests new ways to treat or manage cancer.
Donations have come from bake sales, raffles, concert viewing parties and ticket sales.
The head of neurology at Sunnybrook, Dr. James Perry, says at the hospital and at cancer centres around the world, important advances are being made in brain tumour treatment, ”and support like this helps us continue our work.  To all those who have donated to brain cancer research, thank you.”
