The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected an appeal by 68 Russian track and field athletes who are now banned from competing at the Rio Olympics.
The court ruled in Switzerland this morning that the ban imposed by the International Association of Athletic Federations, following confirmation of state-sponsored doping and coverups at the Socci Winter Games, will stand.
The appeal questioned the the validity of the IAAF decision and sought to allow Russian athletes, not accused of any doping violations, to compete.
Up next: a ruling on whether whether the entire Russian Olympic team is banned from the Rio games over the state sponsored drug-test cheating at Socci. That decision is expected Sunday.
