Like Ian Thomas, his music is getting better with age. The Canadian music icon has reinvented his hits by recording them with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
A Life In Song features 11 tracks spanning his 45 year career, all re-arranged and re-recorded for a full symphony orchestra.
Ian Thomas dropped by for a visit with The Happy Gang on Zoomer Radio and explained that his love of orchestra came out of doing film scores.
“My respect of orchestra and for the canvas of orchestra was what sort of made this project seem interesting to me,” Thomas explained, “So, I did not want to regurgitate the songs, because there were the old version of the songs, and I’d already done that. So what interested me about this, was in some cases like that song (Right Before Your Eyes), I had to re-harmonize that whole song. The melody is intact, but if you tried to sing the harmony parts over that, it wouldn’t work with the chord structure.”
