Transit is the focus of today’s Toronto City Council meeting.

Some councillors are trying to revive a plan for a more cost effective 7-stop light rapid transit line in Scarborough, rather than Mayor John Tory’s plan for a one-stop extension of the Bloor-Danforth subway to Scarborough Town Centre.

Tory says it’s time to stop talking about it and just do it.

“And that’s what I need to have people back me up on, is tell the councillors, stop fighting the old fights, stop re-debating the old debates, get on with building transit. We insist you do that, because if you don’t insist, they’ll keep on debating it ’til the cows come home and you’ll have no transit,” Tory told CP24 on Monday night.

The Mayor also says that the contention of his council opponents that council could switch back to the pre-2013 light rail plan, and that it would be free of both building and operating costs to the city, isn’t true.

In favour of the 7-stop LRT is Councillor Josh Matlow. He says the original Master Agreement, signed in 2012 between the province and city to fund a number of LRT’s across Toronto, including one in Scarborough, could still stand.
