A new report suggests Toronto Community Housing shed some 10,000 of its units in order to ease its financial burden.

The report suggests other non-profits take the units in a move that would introduce tenants to other agencies that provide counseling and employment services in addition to housing.
Toronto’s housing advocate and Councillor Anna Bilao denies the move would amount to dumping but would ensure that the problems within the TCHC get addressed.
The TCHC has a $2.5 billion capital repair backlog which the corporation says is due to years of underfunding.  It is therefore looking at either easing the burden or increasing financing.
The recommendations are to be tabled for discussion at a meeting next week.
