We find out this afternoon exactly what the Mayor’s Task force on Policing is recommending to enhance policing in Toronto. The interim report identifies $100 million in reductions and savings to the force’s $1 billion a year budget.
Among the proposals; merging or closing of up to six police stations; reassignment of officers from the Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (TAVIS) to trouble spots like Rexdale and Jane and Finch; a freeze on staffing and promotions for three years.
The Task Force report is to be made public this afternoon and officially presented to the police board tomorrow.
