Hot on the heels of being named to the Queen’s top ten music list, Dame Vera Lynn has been recognized for services to entertainment and charity on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Dame Vera, who is 99, became known as the Armed Forces Sweetheart during the Second World War and made the Queen’s top ten music list for her 1942 classic “White Cliffs of Dover.”
Dame Vera is now a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour and says she was genuinely surprised because after the Damehood, she says she never expected anything more.
