A team of scientists has found that human-generated climate change nearly doubled the chances of last month’s devastating flooding in France.

The World Weather Attribution Team of international climate scientists used past rainfall data and computer simulations – to look for a possible global warming cause – of the heavy downpours in France and Germany.

The analysis was not peer reviewed.

A senior climate researcher at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, Geert Jan van Oldenborgh, says the researcher’s calculations found that global warming increased the possibility for the Loire river basin flooding by 90 per cent – and the Seine river basin by 80 per cent – compared to a world with no human-made climate change.

Two independent scientists say scientifically sound methods were used by the team – to uncover their findings.
