There have been four times as many deaths from car crashes in Toronto this year than at this time last year and more than in all of 2015.
So far this year, 16 drivers and passengers have died in traffic collisions.
Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe says these crashes were all avoidable and some were caused by distracted driving.
He says too many people think they can drive and multi-task, particularly when it comes to using handheld smartphones; a practice which has been banned in Ontario for several years.
“The reality is, you take somebody’s life, you’re never going to get that life back,” said Stibbe.
