Former Prime Minister Paul Martin would rather the Trudeau Government deliver good and proper “Doctor Assisted Death” legislation, than rush to meet an arbitrary deadline imposed by the Supreme Court of Canada.
MARTIN
Martin made the call at the Liberal’s first national convention since winning last November’s federal election.policy convention in Winnipeg.  Earlier, the head of the Liberals’ women’s commission tried unsuccessfully yesterday to garner  support for an emergency resolution calling for the government to amend the proposed law to make it more permissive.

The bill currently before Parliament has been criticized as being too restrictive and would not withstand a constitutional challenge under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

When it struck down the old law the Supreme Court gave the government until February of this year to deliver new legislation and then extended the deadline to June 6th.
