At the Liberal convention in Winnipeg Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould said she believes the government’s proposed assisted dying law – strikes “the right balance between personal autonomy and ensuring that we protect the vulnerable.”

Wilson-Raybould told delegates that there was talk of having the Supreme Court review the legislation – to ensure it is constitutional – but it was decided there was no point,  because the justices would just send it back to Parliament.

She stressed the importance of meeting the June 6th deadline for a new law – and said  there will be no significant safeguards to protect the vulnerable – if the legislation is not passed in time.
