Two weeks after voting to suspend the ride sharing service, Mississauga councillors have decided to move up a committee’s work.
It’s aim – develop a pilot project to get Uber X and conventional cabs to share the road.
Mississauga will continue enforcing existing bylaws ticketing Uber drivers until a new regulatory framework is presented to council.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie says the ”status-quo” is not working and that changes to the ground transportation industry are needed.
She adds, ”Council has an important opportunity to level the playing field by modernizing rules and regulations to ensure Mississauga is a city in step with the times, and with what the public wants.”
