Practically all of the Trudeau government-sponsored Syrian refugees have found permanent housing.
Immigration Minister John McCallum provided the update to a Commons committee, saying the remaining 2% should be housed by the middle of next month.
He also says the federal government intends to bring in 25,000 government-sponsored refugees from Syria this year, adding it’s well on its way to reach that goal.
That’s in addition to the 25,000 brought here by the end of February in a mix of sponsorships.
According to McCallum, resettlement efforts are proceeding but challenges continue to be in the area of language training and employment.
