After receiving an apology in court from Jian Ghomeshi, Kathryn Borel has been offered an apology by the CBC.
“There’s a much different CBC as far as making sure that everyday, you know it’s an organization with 8000 people, and like any big organization, you do everything that you can to ensure that everybody who comes to work feels good about their place of work. We’re not perfect and I can promise you though that this is a top priority right through the organization,” said Chuck Thompson, CBC’s head of public affairs.
Kathryn Borel made a statement after Ghomeshi’s apology and signing of a peace bond at Toronto’s Old City Hall court.
She detailed how she was treated by Ghomeshi over a period of 3 years, including the now dismissed charge that he sexually assaulted her by simulating a sex act after grabbing her hips from behind.
Borel explained that there was absolutely no recourse when she went to her employer.
“Because when I went to the CBC for help, what I received in return was directive that indeed, yes, he could do this, and yes, it was my job to let him. The relentless message to me from my celebrity boss and the national institution we worked for were that his whims were more important than my humanity or my dignity,” Borel stated. During his apology in court, Jian Ghomeshi said he had come to terms with his own deep regret and embarrassment. There are no remaining charges against him.
