There is no declaration of victory just yet, but officials in Fort McMurray says they’ve tamed the wildfire in the city and Fire Chief Darby Allen says now they’re looking for the knockout punch as the blaze continues to recede to the south.
The provincial government has started distributing cards loaded with $1,250 per adult and $500 dollars for each dependent at evacuee centres and other sites across Alberta. In addition, the Red Cross is set to divvy up $50-million of the $67-million Canadians have donated to the relief effort.
Alberta Premier Rachel Notley will meet with her cabinet today to discuss when some of the 80,000 Fort McMurray evacuees can return home.
