The tens of thousands of residents from Fort McMurray will be getting financial assistance from the Alberta government.
Premier Rachel Notley says every adult will receive $1,250 and $500 for each dependent.
The pledge will cost the Alberta government $100-million.
The Red Cross says Canadians have so far donated $30-million to help evacuees.
Ottawa’s also promised to match all donations to the Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the wildfire’s grown to just over one-thousand-square kilometres.
Officials say it’ll likely continue burning for weeks.
Some residents got a sobering view of the devastation as a convoy was escorted through the city to reach evacuees who’d been trapped in the north to safer spots.
One says the city looks like a war zone with burned out vehicles.
The premier says thanks to the heroic efforts of firefighters, Fort McMurray’s downtown and critical infrastructure remains largely intact.
