Ontario is widening a 4 kilometre stretch of Highway 401 in the west end of the GTA. The busy highway will increase from six to 12 lanes from Hurontario Street to the Credit River in Mississauga and includes a high occupancy lane (HOV) in each direction. The $81 million project is one of 230 highway construction projects announced across the province and is expected to be completed by fall 2019. Premier Kathleen Wynne says the additional lanes will help improve traffic flow and create 800 jobs. Ontario has 16,900 kilometres of highway and 2,800 bridges.
