Andrea Horwath knows exactly how Tom Mulcair feels.
The Ontario NDP leader heard calls for her resignation after a disappointing election result in 2014 but managed to stay on.
And now after an equally disappointing loss by New Democrats in last year’s federal election, party leader Mulcair is hearing similar calls heading into this weekend’s party convention in Edmonton.
Ever since the poor showing last October, Horwath says Mulcair’s had some ”blunt and upfront conversations” with various activists and volunteers.
While the rank-and-file will decide who should lead the federal party, Horwath would like Mulcair to stay on.
She’s scheduled to speak to the convention Friday, the opening day of the three-day gathering which culminates with a leadership vote Sunday.
Outgoing party president Rebecca Blaikie has said she believes Mulcair needs about 70% support.
