Tate Modern says the 68-year-old John owns ”one of the world’s greatest private collections of  photography,” some 7,000 images and includes portraits of some of the 20th century’s great cultural figures, including Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Jean Cocteau.

”The Modernist era in photography is one of the key moments within the medium and collecting working from this period has brought me great joy over the last 25 years,” John said.
”each of these photographs serves as inspiration for me in my life; they line the walls of my homes and I consider them precious gems … I hope the exhibition audience experiences as much joy in seeing the works as I have had in finding them.”
Tate says the exhibition, which opens November 10, is the start of a long-term relationship between John and the London gallery.
