Medically assisted death is an issue worth thinking more about.
That’s the comment from Cardinal Thomas Collins in a message that was read throughout the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto Sunday.
He says doctor assisted death may seem like a good idea to some, but that people have not thought enough about it.
Collins says new Parliamentary Committee recommendations don’t take into consideration the conscience of doctors asked to help patients end their lives.
He takes exception with one particular recommendation that asks doctors who don’t want to assist in taking a life, refer their patients to doctors who will.
Dying with Dignity CEO Shanaaz Gokool says doctors objections should be balanced with assisting those who want to end their suffering.
Canada has until June to come up with new legislations surrounding doctor assisted death.
