An Ontario court judge will rule on Monday whether the identity of doctors, who want to help a terminally ill man end his life, will be made public.

Lawyers representing a series of news outlets say the 80-year-old Toronto man’s identity should be kept secret, but that the doctor identities should be known.

The terminally ill Toronto man and his family are asking the court for a constitutional exemption so he can be granted a medically-assisted death. That hearing is going to be held later this month.

If the exemption is granted, it would be the first doctor assisted death in Ontario, and just the second outside of Quebec.

Superior Court Justice Thomas McEwen had been expected to rule on the matter on Friday.
