An in-depth review of the transportation system in this country recommends a number of changes.
They include raising the limit on foreign ownership for Canadian airlines – and reducing fees for airport security.
The report was tabled in Parliament on Thursday.
It was overseen by former federal cabinet minister David Emerson – after an 18-month review.
The foreign ownership of Canadian airlines is limited to 25 per cent – and the review says that should be nearly doubled – to 49 per cent.
The review also says foreign ownership limits for cargo and specialty air services should be done away with altogether.
Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau says the Trudeau government will consider the findings of the review – before consulting with Canadians.
