Ontario recorded its first Zika Virus patient today (Friday).
The person had apparently been traveling in Columbia.
Still, Ontario’s chief Medical officer of health reminds us that the risk of contracting the virus in Ontario is very low because the mosquitoes that pass it along are not established here and not well suited to our climate.
Just to be sure, a team of scientists at Brock University have recently ordered in a shipment of the virus to see whether mosquitoes native to Canada can become infected with it. Results should be available by the end of the summer.
