Quebec’s film industry has moved quickly to eradicate the memory of the late film director and actor Claude Jutra – following the publication of a biography that alleges Jutra had sex with underage boys.

Jutra’s name is no longer associated with the province’s annual awards show – recognizing the best in Quebec cinema.

And Montreal mayor Denis Coderre says Jutra’s name will also be coming off a park and a street in the city.

Quebec’s culture minister has requested a list of all the locations in the province that bear Jutra’s name – so municipalities can decide on their own whether or not to keep them as they are.

The book was written by Yves Lever – a retired cinema professor and movie critic.

Although the book does not name any abused boys, the newspaper La Presse quotes a man as saying Jutra began touching him when he was just six years old – and the behaviour escalated over a 10-year period.

Jutra committed suicide in 1986 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
