Should the city of Toronto’s more than 25-thousand inside and outside employees strike or be locked out in a week’s time, there’s a contingency plan in place.
Peter Wallace
City Manager Peter Wallace says ”We remain very much committed to reaching negotiated settlements but we must also be responsible in preparing our operational contingency plans in advance of a potential labour disruption.  As always, there is a high priority on maintaining public safety and ensuring the delivery of as many critical services as possible.”
In the event of a strike or lockout, Police, Fire, Paramedic Services, Long-Term Care Homes and Services, TTC, Toronto Community Housing buildings and most Public Library branches would not be affected.
Among services potentially affected – child care centres, community centres and arenas, waste collection east of Yonge Street, building and other permits and programming at City facilities.

Officials with both union locals say they’re focusing on reaching a deal.

The approximately 4,200 outside workers (CUPE Local 416) will be in a legal strike position and the City in a legal lockout position Friday February 19.

The City’s approximately 21,000 inside employees (CUPE Local 79) will be in a legal strike position and the City in a legal lockout position Saturday February 20.
