Margaret Forster taught a girls’ school in north London, England before she started to write.
She authored more than 20 novels but was perhaps best known for one published in 1965 that was adapted into a feature film and song of the same name, ”Georgy Girl”.
Forster died from cancer in the back and spine.
She was 77.
Forster underwent a double mastectomy 40 years ago and recovered fully until the cancer returned 10 years ago.
She was married to Hunter Davies, a journalist and author who wrote the only authorized biography of the Beatles.
