There may be a new plan for the Scarborough subway extension.
It would see the extension run from Kennedy Station directly to Scarborough Town Centre, with the stops at Lawrence and Sheppard cancelled.
The change would mean $1 Billion in savings which would then be used to build an eastern extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
Scarborough-Agincourt Councillor Jim Karygiannis voiced his frustration with reporters at City Hall.
“I am very upset the people of Scarborough are used as second class citizens. I am very upset we’re not getting (the Scarborough subway) extended, and I’m very mad we’re talking about relief lines downtown when people downtown should also be respectful of the people of Scarborough.”
But Toronto mayor John Tory says the plan would mean more transit for residents in Scarborough and more efficient use of taxpayer money.
Under the new plan the Malvern LRT would become Crosstown East – running 17 stops from Kennedy along Kingston Road and up Morningside Ave.
