The man, who started as Celine Dion’s manager and later became her husband, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Rene Angelil was 73.

He had undergone several cancer treatments over the years.

Angelil discovered Celine when she sent him a demo tape when she was just 12-years-old.

He mortgaged his house to launch her career and told anyone who’d listen he was going to make her a worldwide star.

They eventually married in 1994 at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica.

They had three children, 14-year-old Rene-Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

Both Angelil and Dion were appointed members of the Order of Canada in 2012.
